Niacinamide — also known as vitamin B3 — is one of the most versatile active ingredients in evidence-based skincare. Unlike most actives that target a single concern, niacinamide addresses four of the most common skin issues in Pakistan simultaneously: excess oil production, enlarged pores, post-acne marks, and a weakened skin barrier. It does this without irritation, without a strict introduction period, and without increasing UV sensitivity — making it one of the few ingredients suitable for daily use morning and evening from day one.
Understanding what niacinamide actually does at each level explains why it appears in routines targeting acne, pigmentation, and skin barrier concerns alike.
Oil and pore control: Niacinamide at 10% reduces sebum excretion rate — the rate at which your sebaceous glands produce oil. For oily skin in Pakistan's humid climate, where heat and humidity drive above-average oil production year-round, this is one of the most practically useful effects any topical ingredient delivers. Reduced sebum production means less material available for pore blockages, which means fewer blackheads and a reduction in the congested, enlarged-looking pores that excess oil causes.
Post-acne marks: Niacinamide inhibits the transfer of melanin from melanocytes — the cells that produce pigment — to the surrounding skin cells. This is a different mechanism from tyrosinase inhibition, which means niacinamide and kojic acid work at two separate points in the same pigmentation pathway. Used alongside a kojic acid product, niacinamide meaningfully accelerates the fading of post-acne hyperpigmentation compared to either ingredient alone.
Barrier support: Niacinamide stimulates ceramide synthesis — the production of the lipid molecules that form the skin barrier's structure. A stronger barrier means less transepidermal water loss, less reactive sensitivity to environmental aggressors like pollution and hard water, and better tolerance of other active ingredients in the routine. For skin being treated with salicylic acid or exfoliating acids, niacinamide is the ingredient that keeps the barrier functional during treatment.
SkinFactor's 10% Niacinamide Serum delivers the active at the concentration where clinical research shows consistent results across all four of these functions. The Oil Control Kit pairs it with the 2% Salicylic Acid Gel Cleanser — combining BHA exfoliation for pore clearance with niacinamide's sebum regulation and barrier support in a single routine package.
Niacinamide is also a key supporting ingredient across SkinFactor's acne and pigmentation ranges. It pairs with salicylic acid in the Acne Control routine and with kojic acid in the Pigmentation routine — covering the marks that both conditions leave behind while strengthening the barrier that active ingredient use requires.
