Reduces Fine Lines & Renews Skin from the Root
A 0.5% Retinol evening serum that reduces fine lines, stimulates collagen and renews skin texture over time. The gold standard anti-ageing concentration for visible results without harsh adjustment ā results in 8ā12 weeks.
"Skin texture got better after just 1 week of using it. ā Aiman Zahid" ā
Skin Type: All skin types, including sensitive skin when introduced gradually per the protocol below.
Targets: Fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity, uneven texture, dark spots and early signs of ageing.
Age guidance: From age 18+. Prevention benefits begin mid-20s as collagen decline starts. Correction of visible fine lines and texture is most effective from your 30s onward with consistent use.
Not recommended for:
SkinFactor's Retinol 0.5% Serum is a leave-on evening treatment formulated at the concentration most widely used in clinical retinol research for beginners and established users alike. At 0.5%, it delivers retinol's full spectrum of benefits ā accelerated cell turnover, collagen stimulation, dark spot fading, and texture improvement ā at a dose that produces visible results without the significant peeling and irritation that higher concentrations cause when introduced without a proper adjustment period.
What retinol does at 0.5%:
Accelerates cell renewal: Retinol converts to retinoic acid in the skin, where it signals skin cells to renew faster than the natural 28-day cycle. Faster turnover means fresher, smoother skin cells reach the surface more quickly ā replacing the UV-damaged, hyperpigmented, and textured surface cells that accumulate with age and environmental exposure. For Pakistani skin dealing with years of accumulated UV damage, this accelerated renewal is one of the most effective available non-prescription mechanisms for visible improvement.
Stimulates collagen production:
Retinol activates fibroblasts ā the cells responsible for producing collagen and elastin, the structural proteins that keep skin firm and elastic. As these proteins naturally decline with age, skin loses firmness and fine lines become more visible. Consistent retinol use is one of the few topical mechanisms that directly addresses collagen loss rather than just masking its effects.
Fades dark spots and pigmentation:
Accelerated cell turnover means hyperpigmented surface cells are shed and replaced faster than they would be naturally. Post-acne marks, sun-induced dark spots, and UV damage that has accumulated over years of exposure in Pakistan's extreme UV conditions all respond to consistent retinol use ā fading progressively as hyperpigmented cells shed faster than new ones can replace them at the same density.
Refines skin texture:
Dead cell accumulation on the skin surface ā accelerated in Pakistan by UV damage, pollution, and hard water ā produces the rough, uneven texture that gives skin a dull, tired appearance. Retinol's surface renewal effect clears this accumulation more thoroughly than physical exfoliation and produces a smoother, more light-reflective texture over consistent use.
Why 0.5% specifically ā not 0.1%, not 1%:
Retinol concentration determines both efficacy and the adjustment period required. At 0.1%, results are mild and slow. At 1% and above, results are faster but the adjustment period is significantly more intense ā peeling, redness, and sensitivity that most people are unprepared for and that leads to abandoning the product before any benefit appears. At 0.5%, the clinical sweet spot, the adjustment period is manageable with a correct introduction protocol and the results are consistent and visible within eight to twelve weeks.
The introduction protocol ā follow this exactly:
Retinol requires a gradual introduction that most products do not explain clearly enough. Start with two evenings per week for the first two weeks. Move to every other evening for weeks three and four. Move to nightly use in week five if the skin is comfortable ā no persistent dryness, no significant flaking. If irritation appears at any stage, drop back to the previous frequency for one additional week before progressing again. Rushing this protocol is the single most common reason people experience the negative side effects that give retinol its difficult reputation. Non-negotiable rules for retinol use in Pakistan:
Evening only: Retinol degrades in UV light and significantly increases UV sensitivity. Never apply in the morning. Evening application only, on clean dry skin.
SPF 50 every morning without exception:
Pakistan's UV index of 8 to 11 makes this the most important rule for retinol users in this market. Retinol accelerates cell turnover ā the newly revealed skin is more sensitive to UV damage than unexfoliated skin. Using retinol without daily SPF accelerates the very UV damage you are trying to reverse. SPF is not optional during retinol use. It is the step that makes the retinol work safely.
Ceramide moisturiser after every application:
Apply 10% Ceramide Complex Moisturiser after the retinol has absorbed every evening. Retinol accelerates cell turnover which temporarily increases transepidermal water loss ā a ceramide moisturiser replenishes the barrier lipids that this disrupts and makes consistent nightly retinol use comfortable rather than drying.
What not to use on the same evening:
Do not apply salicylic acid serum, glycolic acid toner, or kojic acid serum on the same evening as retinol. Both retinol and these actives exfoliate ā combining them increases irritation risk without proportional benefit. Alternate evenings: retinol on Monday, Wednesday, Friday; other actives on the remaining evenings.

STEP 1
Cleanse with a gentle, non-exfoliating cleanser at night. Avoid cleansing with Salicylic Acid or Glycolic Acid products on nights you plan to use retinol.
STEP 2
Pat skin completely dry. Retinol should be applied to dry skin only ā applying to damp skin increases penetration beyond intended levels and is the most common cause of unexpected stinging.
STEP 3
Apply a pea-sized amount of Retinol Serum across the entire face. More is not better ā excess product does not improve results, it only increases irritation risk.
STEP 4
If you are in your first 2-4 weeks or have sensitive skin, use the sandwich method: moisturiser first, retinol on top, then a second thin layer of moisturiser. This buffers the retinol and significantly reduces irritation while you build tolerance.
STEP 5
Wait 20-30 minutes before applying anything else, or proceed straight to your moisturiser if not sandwiching. Seal with the Ceramide Moisturiser to support your barrier overnight.
STEP 6
In the morning, cleanse gently and apply Vitamin C Serum for antioxidant protection, then finish with SPF 50 Sunscreen without exception. Retinol increases photosensitivity ā skipping SPF undoes the results you are working toward.
When to Use:
Night use only. Never in the morning.
Common mistake to avoid: Layering retinol with Vitamin C or Salicylic Acid in the same routine to "boost results faster." This does not accelerate progress ā it stacks irritation and often forces people to stop using retinol altogether within the first month. Split them instead: Vitamin C in the morning, retinol at night, and alternate retinol nights with any exfoliating acid nights (for example retinol Mon/Wed/Fri, Salicylic Acid Tue/Thu).
Tip: Pair with the 2% Hyaluronic Acid Serum on damp skin before your retinol at night. HA provides a hydration buffer that reduces dryness and flaking during the adjustment period, making it significantly easier to stay consistent through the first month ā which is when most people quit before seeing results.
0.5% Retinol stimulates collagen production for visible improvement in texture and fine lines, introduced gradually to minimise irritation.
Improvement becomes visible with consistent use following the gradual protocol.
The clinically established timeline for measurable improvement.
Collagen stimulation compounds with sustained use over months.
| Timeframe | What Changes |
|---|---|
| Week 1-2 | Skin adjusting via the sandwich method ā mild flaking is normal. |
| Week 4 | Smoother texture and subtle radiance improvement. |
| Week 8-12 | Visible reduction in fine lines and refined pores. |
| What Affects Results | Results are cumulative ā improvement at 6 months meaningfully exceeds results at 3 months. |
