Signs You Have Sensitive Skin in Pakistan

Identifying whether you have genuinely sensitive skin or sensitised skin — previously normal skin that has become reactive — determines the correct treatment approach. Both present with similar symptoms but have different causes and different resolution timelines.

Signs of Genuinely Sensitive Skin

Present since early adulthood or childhood: Constitutionally sensitive skin is a long-standing characteristic — not a sudden onset.

Flushing easily: Face reddens with temperature changes, spicy food, alcohol, exercise, or emotional reactions. May have diagnosed or suspected rosacea.

Consistent reactions to many products: Not specific to new products — even gentle moisturisers cause redness or burning.

Family history: Parents or siblings with sensitive skin, eczema, or rosacea.

Thin-feeling, easily irritated skin: Environmental factors (wind, cold, heat) cause visible skin reactions that last hours.

Signs of Sensitised (Acquired) Skin

Recently developed: Skin that was previously tolerant has become reactive in the past few months.

Associated with new products: Sensitivity appeared after starting a new skincare routine, exfoliant, or active ingredient.

Stinging from previously tolerated products: The same moisturiser or serum that felt comfortable for months now stings or burns.

Flaking alongside sensitivity: Over-exfoliation typically produces both sensitivity and visible surface flaking simultaneously.

Improves with barrier repair: Sensitised skin typically improves significantly within two to four weeks of stopping all actives and using only gentle cleanser and ceramide cream.

The Stinging Test

Apply a small amount of your regular moisturiser to the inner forearm. If it produces noticeable stinging or burning within 30 seconds — the skin in that area has some level of barrier compromise. The same test on the face provides relevant information about facial barrier status.

Healthy barrier skin: no stinging from standard moisturisers or gentle serums. Compromised barrier skin: stinging even from gentle, pH-appropriate products.

The Most Common Sensitised Skin Pattern in Pakistan

The most common presentation is: started a salicylic acid or glycolic acid product, used it daily for two to four weeks, then developed stinging, redness, and reactive breakouts. Stopped the product but skin did not return to normal. Added more products to address the new symptoms, which compounded the sensitivity further.

Resolution: Stop all active ingredients. Use only 3% Oat Extract Gentle Cleanser and 10% Ceramide Moisturizer for four to six weeks. Add SPF 50 Sunscreen PA+++ every morning. The skin barrier repairs and sensitivity resolves.
