Why Pakistani Skin Is So Oily: The Climate Connection
"My skin is oily — that's just how it is." This is the most common characterisation of oily skin in Pakistan — and a partially incorrect one. While genetics determine the baseline size and reactivity of sebaceous glands, the degree of oiliness any given person experiences is significantly shaped by environmental conditions. In Pakistan's climate, the environmental contribution to oiliness is substantial — and therefore substantially reducible.
Temperature and Sebum: The Direct Relationship
Sebaceous glands have temperature-responsive secretion rates. Studies measuring sebum output across temperature conditions consistently find increased production at higher temperatures — the glands are more active, secreting more oil per unit time, at 35°C than at 20°C.
