How to Introduce Active Ingredients With Sensitive Skin in Pakistan

How to Introduce Active Ingredients With Sensitive Skin in Pakistan

Sensitive skin in Pakistan does not mean active ingredients are impossible — it means they require careful, sequential introduction rather than the simultaneous multi-active approach appropriate for tolerant skin. The correct protocol allows sensitive Pakistani skin to access the same active ingredients as any other skin type — clearing acne, fading dark spots, and providing anti-ageing benefit — without the sensitisation reactions that incorrect introduction produces.

The Foundational Rule: One Active at a Time

Every active ingredient introduction for sensitive skin follows the same rule: add one new product, use it consistently for two weeks at minimum frequency, and evaluate tolerance before adding anything else. Two actives introduced simultaneously mean that if a reaction occurs, it is impossible to identify which product caused it.

The impatience to accelerate this protocol is the most common cause of sensitisation in Pakistani skincare. The barrier needs time to adjust to each new active before the next one is introduced.

Step 1: Establish the Baseline (Weeks 1–6)

Before any actives, establish a stable skin surface: Oat Cleanser → HA Serum → Ceramide Cream → SPF. Six weeks. No reactions to any of these products. If any cause stinging, delay actives further and add one week per product that causes stinging.

Step 2: Introduce Niacinamide (Week 6)

Niacinamide is the safest active for sensitive skin — no pH sensitivity, no UV sensitivity, no significant irritation potential. 10% Niacinamide Serum morning and evening. Monitor two weeks. If comfortable, it is established.

Niacinamide also supports barrier function through ceramide synthesis stimulation — the active that makes subsequent introductions safer rather than risking them.

Step 3: Introduce Vitamin C (Week 8)

Once niacinamide is established, begin vitamin C introduction.

Start: One morning per week. 10% Vitamin C Serum — apply after HA serum, before ceramide cream. One morning only.

Week 9: Two mornings per week if week 8 was comfortable. Week 10: Three mornings per week. Week 11: Four mornings per week. Week 12: Daily if all previous weeks were reaction-free.

If any week produces stinging or redness that persists beyond the day of application — remain at the previous week's frequency for two additional weeks before attempting to increase.

Step 4: Introduce SA Cleanser (Week 10)

If acne is a concern alongside sensitivity, the SA Gel Cleanser is the safest BHA introduction because rinse-off contact limits exposure.

Start: Salicylic Acid Cleanser on one evening per week instead of the oat cleanser. Monitor for two weeks. Then two evenings per week. Then three. Build to daily over six weeks.

Do not introduce the SA leave-on serum until the SA cleanser is used daily without reaction for at least two weeks.

Step 5: Introduce SA Serum (Week 14+)

Start: 2% Salicylic Acid Serum on one evening per week after cleansing. Apply 2 to 3 drops only. Follow with ceramide cream immediately. Monitor two weeks.

Build at the same one-additional-evening-per-week pace as vitamin C. Daily SA serum may take six to eight weeks to establish for sensitive skin.

Step 6: Retinol (Week 20+ — If Appropriate)

Retinol for sensitive skin should only be introduced after all previous actives are well-established and the skin has been stable for at least eight weeks. Begin at once every ten days. Build extremely gradually. Many sensitive skin types maintain retinol at two to three evenings per week permanently — daily is not the goal for sensitive skin.

The Emergency Reset

If a reaction occurs at any stage: stop all actives immediately. Return to Oat Cleanser + HA Serum + Ceramide Cream + SPF. Maintain for two to four weeks until the skin is stable again. Then restart the introduction protocol from the point of the reaction, at a lower frequency.
